How do I care for my platinum ruby ring?

Clean your ring using warm soapy water and a soft brush to remove everyday oils from beneath the settings. Avoid harsh ultrasonic cleaners if the stones have natural fracture fillings or historical treatments. Store the piece separately from other jewellery to prevent harder diamonds from scratching the softer ruby or wearing down the platinum claws.

Can these rings be resized easily?

Platinum is exceptionally durable and can be resized by a skilled jeweller who possesses the appropriate high-temperature torch. The process requires care to preserve delicate shoulder engraving or millegrain details near the band. Full eternity rings cannot be altered without disrupting the continuous pattern of stones, making initial size selection critical for those specific forms.

Are these rubies treated?

Many vintage and antique rubies display natural characteristics shaped by geological formation, while some modern stones undergo heat treatment to improve clarity and colour. Independent gemmological reports often accompany finer pieces to confirm whether thermal enhancement is present. Unheated stones of significant weight originating from Burma remain particularly sought after by collectors and command distinct consideration.

How do I distinguish Art Deco from Edwardian styles?

Edwardian rings typically showcase delicate platinum filigree, garland motifs, and softer curved lines reminiscent of lace and ribbonwork. The focus centres on light, airy structures housing rose-cut diamonds and softer coloured gems. Art Deco design shifts decisively toward bold symmetry, rigid geometry, and strong colour contrasts utilising calibre-cut rubies alongside brilliant-cut diamonds.
