How do I clean an antique tapestry cushion?

Surface dust can be removed gently with a soft brush or low-suction vacuum through a protective mesh screen. Professional textile conservation is recommended for deep cleaning to protect delicate wool and silk fibres. Water and standard detergents should be avoided as they cause dyes to bleed and fibres to shrink. Keeping pieces out of direct sunlight prevents the pink tones from fading.

Where were Aubusson rugs made?

Aubusson rugs originate from the historic workshops in the Creuse valley of France. Weavers there produced flat-weave carpets and tapestries for European interiors. Production spanned several centuries, absorbing changing artistic movements from floral Rococo designs to nineteenth-century naturalism.

Can I use these rugs on the floor?

Many antique rugs and carpets are suitable for floor placement in areas with light foot traffic. A quality underlay provides cushioning and prevents slipping. Heavily worn or delicate pieces benefit from placement in low-traffic zones or as wall hangings to preserve the textile structure.

What is the difference between a suzani and a tapestry?

A suzani is an embroidered textile created by stitching decorative threads onto a woven cotton or silk foundation. They originate primarily from Central Asian traditions. A tapestry is woven on a loom where the pattern is created as the fabric itself is constructed. This creates an integrated design rather than surface embroidery.
