Where should I place a pier table with mirror?

These sets are traditionally positioned against the flat wall space between two windows, known as the pier, where they maximise natural daylight. Placing the table in a hallway or drawing room allows the mirror to bounce light across the space while the stone top holds decorative objects.

How do I identify a Regency period table?

Regency pieces often feature dark timbers like rosewood or mahogany, accented with brass inlay and restrained parcel gilding. The lines remain classical and architectural, drawing inspiration from ancient Greek and Roman forms rather than heavy Victorian ornamentation.

Are the marble tops original to the tables?

Most nineteenth-century console tables retain their heavy stone slabs, which sit unattached within the wooden frame for stability. Figured and carrara marble types are standard across the listed periods, shaped specifically to fit the profile of each individual base.

What is the difference between a console table and a chiffonier?

A console table stands open against the wall on legs or brackets, whereas a chiffonier typically incorporates enclosed cabinet space beneath the surface. Both forms appear with mirror backs in nineteenth-century interiors, though the console prioritises open display over storage.
