What is a pot board dresser?

A pot board dresser is a heavy timber storage unit featuring a low open shelf near the floor beneath the main counter surface. These pieces were built for country kitchens to hold heavy cookware on the lower tier while providing surface space for food preparation.

Where were these dressers made?

Many examples originate from Welsh and English provincial workshops operating during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Regional makers utilised local hardwoods like oak and softwoods like pine to supply rural farmhouses and country houses.

Do dressers come with racks?

Some pieces retain their original open shelved racks for displaying plates, while others survive as dresser bases alone. Both configurations appear frequently in country house inventories and historical listings.

How do I care for oak timber?

Maintain old oak surfaces by applying beeswax sparingly and buffing with a soft cloth to preserve the natural grain. Keep wooden furniture away from direct heat sources and sudden humidity changes to protect the historic structure.
