What periods do these paintings cover?

The selection spans from the seventeenth century through the Victorian era up to the mid-twentieth century. Nineteenth-century works dominate the listings, alongside modernist and mid-century interpretations from the nineteen-fifties.

Are the frames original?

Many pieces retain their period frames, including original giltwood, gesso and Hogarth mouldings. Descriptions specify whether a frame dates concurrently with the artwork.

How should I hang an oil painting?

Hang paintings away from direct sunlight and fluctuating heat sources to protect the canvas and oil pigments. Secure heavy framed works to wall studs using appropriate hardware rated for the weight.

What is a genre scene?

A genre scene depicts everyday subjects and ordinary people engaged in common activities rather than grand historical narratives. These interior views capture domestic life, card games and tea hours.
