What periods do these landscape pieces cover?

The selection spans from the seventeenth century through the nineteenth century and into the mid-twentieth century. Works reflect the shifting artistic styles of these distinct eras. Earlier pieces often feature classical landscape backdrops, while later nineteenth and twentieth-century examples embrace impressionist and expressive brushwork.

Are all these items traditional oil paintings?

While oil on canvas forms a large part of the selection, the category includes watercolours on paper and pastels. Decorative papier-mâché trays also feature painted landscape scenes. Different mediums offer varied textures and visual weights for interior display.

How should I hang heavy framed landscape art?

Heavy oil paintings in gilt wood frames require secure wall fixings suited to the weight of the timber and canvas. Plaster walls need appropriate cavity anchors or attachment directly to studs. Ensuring stable placement protects both the historic frame and the painting surface over time.

How do I identify a nineteenth-century watercolour?

Nineteenth-century watercolours typically appear on heavy paper stock, often protected by glass within a period frame. The pigment shows delicate washes and fine brush details characteristic of the period. Paper ageing and framing style offer further clues to the date of production.
