How do you open the padlock?

The heart padlock operates via a small internal spring mechanism, often released by pressing a hidden lever or shifting the shackle. Many retain a safety chain attached alongside the padlock to prevent accidental loss. Original padlocks match the metal standard of the chain and bear corresponding hallmarks.

How do I wear an antique bracelet safely?

Daily wear requires checking the security of the jump rings connecting the padlock to the chain. Ensuring the spring mechanism within the padlock snaps shut firmly protects the piece during movement. Pairing the bracelet with its original safety chain provides an extra measure of security around the wrist.

How can I tell Victorian from Edwardian pieces?

Victorian examples often showcase heavier rose gold curb links with deep, hand-engraved scrollwork and occasional gemstone clusters. Edwardian pieces tend to introduce lighter gate link structures and refined geometric or floral motifs. Assay office hallmarks stamped directly onto the links or padlock provide precise dating evidence.
