Where should I place a standard lamp?

These tall floor fixtures suit corners of reception rooms or beside large armchairs where they provide comfortable reading light without crowding surface tables. Their architectural height also helps balance high ceilings and fill empty wall spaces effectively.

How do I identify Italian styles?

Italian examples often display exuberant baroque or Florentine carving with bold acanthus leaves and baluster turned shafts. The gilding tends to be rich and warm in tone. Venetian and Florentine revivals frequently incorporate deep relief work that marks them out from more restrained neoclassical English designs.

Are these wired for modern use?

Most surviving examples have been adapted over time to take contemporary electrical flex and standard bulb fittings. Buyers should consult individual listings for details on current wiring. Qualified electricians can easily check or update internal components to meet modern safety standards while preserving the antique base.

What periods do these lamps span?

The selection includes pieces dating from the eighteenth century through the Victorian era and into the early twentieth century. Interwar pieces from the nineteen thirties also appear regularly. Stylistic revivals heavily influence nineteenth and twentieth century production, referencing earlier neoclassical and baroque vocabularies.
