How do I clean a silver frame?

Use a soft microfiber cloth with a dedicated silver polish, taking care to avoid touching any exposed wood or fabric backing. Gentle application prevents the removal of thin silver plating or the softening of detailed embossed edges.

What sizes do these frames come in?

Dimensions range from small miniature novelties up to substantial twenty-inch architectural display pieces. Most everyday examples sit comfortably between seven and ten inches in height for standard desk or mantel use.

Are the glass panes usually original?

Many surviving frames retain their original flat glass, though replacements do occur due to accidental breakage over the decades. Examining the glass for small bubbles or minor surface wear helps determine its age relative to the silver mount.

How do I date my frame?

Look for the series of stamped hallmarks near the outer edge, which include a date letter corresponding to a specific assay office year. Additional context comes from the style of decoration, such as strict Edwardian neoclassical motifs or later Art Deco geometric lines.
