What is a frieze drawer console used for?

These tables provide a combination of a display surface and concealed storage, making them suitable for entryways, living rooms and studies. The integrated drawer accommodates small items like writing materials or keys while the top holds lamps, books or decorative objects.

How do I identify a Regency period table?

Regency pieces often display classical architectural influences, featuring dark exotic woods like rosewood and mahogany, brass inlay, and bold pillar or saber leg supports. They reflect the design trends of the early nineteenth century, drawing inspiration from ancient Greek, Roman and Egyptian motifs.

Are these tables suitable for everyday use?

Solid construction in hardwoods such as oak and mahogany ensures these tables handle daily tasks like writing or placement in busy hallways. Care should be taken with antique veneered surfaces and leather inserts to protect them from excessive moisture and direct sunlight.

How do Victorian pieces differ from Georgian ones?

Georgian tables tend to favour restrained classical proportions, premium mahogany and subtle bracket details or straight legs. Victorian examples frequently introduce heavier carved oak or walnut construction, reflecting nineteenth-century revivals of Renaissance and Gothic styles.
