Will a standard mattress fit?

Many antique frames require specific sizing adjustments or custom mattresses to fit historical dimensions correctly. Buyers should check internal measurements carefully before purchase. Modern mattress suppliers can often create bespoke sizes to suit nineteenth century French proportions without altering the original frame.

How do I care for mahogany?

Mahogany requires consistent indoor humidity levels to prevent timber movement or splitting in dry environments. Dust regularly with a soft cloth and apply quality wax polish sparingly. Avoid placing antique wooden furniture near direct heat sources or in strong sunlight to protect the polish.

Are these beds easy to assemble?

Most frames utilise traditional bolt-in side rails that require basic spanners for assembly. Professional delivery services often handle the installation for buyers. Care should be taken not to over-tighten metal fixings into historical timber threads during setup.

What defines the style?

The style draws on classical Roman and Greek motifs, featuring prominent cornices, columns, and symmetrical proportions. Ormolu mounts often depict military or floral emblems typical of the period. Dark polished timbers contrast sharply with bright brass or gilt details to create an imposing focal point.
