How should I care for an oil painting on canvas?

Keep the canvas away from direct sunlight and dramatic shifts in temperature or humidity to prevent cracking in the oil paint. Dust the surface and the giltwood frame gently with a dry, soft cloth. Avoid using liquid cleaners on either the canvas or the gold leaf frame, as moisture damages traditional oil mediums.

What subjects appear most frequently in these artworks?

Cattle, sheep, horses, and poultry dominate the compositions, often set within farmyards, pastures, or rustic barns. Many pieces also incorporate figures such as farmers or children feeding the animals. These pastoral subjects reflect the Victorian appetite for rural realism and agricultural scenes.
