What is an antique lounge?

An antique lounge encompasses historical seating furniture designed for relaxation, including armchairs, daybeds, and chaises longues. These pieces span various periods from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, reflecting changing domestic comforts.

How do I identify a Victorian armchair?

Victorian armchairs often feature dark hardwoods like mahogany or walnut, substantial upholstery, and distinct forms such as spoon backs or wing backs. They emphasise heavy comfort and robust construction characteristic of the nineteenth century.

Where were these lounge pieces made?

The pieces originate from diverse workshops across England, France, Scotland, Sweden, and China. Local craftsmanship and regional materials dictate the distinct style of each geographic origin.

Can I use daybeds daily?

Daybeds and chaise longues are built with sturdy hardwood frames and traditional upholstery to support regular reclining and seating. Proper care for the fabric and frame ensures they function reliably in modern living spaces.
