What periods do these carvings come from?

The pieces span from the seventeenth century through to the early twentieth century, taking in seventeenth-century religious figures alongside nineteenth-century mirrors and panels. European and Asian workshops produced these items across distinct periods including the Baroque, Regency, and Qing eras.

How should I hang a heavy giltwood mirror?

Large carved mirrors and architectural panels require secure wall fixings suited to their substantial timber weight. Professional installation helps support heavy frames safely. Load-bearing brackets should anchor directly into solid wall studs or masonry rather than plasterboard alone.

What is the difference between giltwood and gold leaf?

Giltwood describes the entire wooden object that has undergone the gilding process. Gold leaf is the actual ultra-thin metal beaten into sheets and applied to the gesso surface. Master craftsmen applied the gold leaf over a prepared plaster ground to achieve a warm metallic sheen.

Are these pieces suitable for modern interiors?

These carvings integrate easily into contemporary rooms as focal points above mantelpieces, consoles, or plain walls. Their tactile textures add depth to minimalist spaces. Wall plaques, mirrors, and sculptural figures bring historic craftsmanship and natural materials into everyday living areas.
