Will an antique bed fit modern mattresses?

Many French bed frames were built to historical dimensions which differ slightly from standard modern mattress sizes. Adjustments or custom mattresses may be necessary to ensure a proper fit within the historic wooden or metal rails. Buyers should measure the internal width and length of the bedstead carefully before purchasing bedding or mattresses to ensure compatibility with modern standards.

How do I care for wooden bed frames?

Polished timber surfaces benefit from occasional application of suitable wax to nourish the grain and protect the finish from drying out over time. Avoid placing wooden furniture near direct heat sources or strong sunlight. Regular dusting with a soft, dry cloth maintains the patina on walnut and mahogany without damaging antique polishes or delicate carved details.

What is a daybed used for?

Daybeds serve a dual purpose as seating during the day and sleeping quarters at night. They were commonly placed in studies, salons, or bedrooms for resting. These versatile pieces often feature upholstered backs or decorative caned frames, making them a functional and stylish addition to various rooms.
