What periods do these paintings come from?

Most works originate from the nineteenth century, including Victorian and Edwardian periods, with occasional examples from the eighteenth century up to the early twentieth century. These dates reflect the height of British landscape painting and watercolour traditions.

How should I hang an oil painting?

Hang oil paintings away from direct sunlight and steady heat sources to protect both the canvas and the original gesso frame. Ensure the wall fixings match the substantial weight of large giltwood frames.

Are watercolours framed differently?

Watercolours require protection behind glass to prevent atmospheric damage to the paper surface. Keep them out of direct sunlight to prevent the watercolour pigments from fading.

What subjects appear besides castles?

Artists frequently include rivers, coastal villages, shipping boats, and fisherfolk alongside the main architectural focus. These companion elements provide scale and capture daily life near historic fortifications.
