Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A lowboy is a small table or chest with drawers mounted on cabriole or turned legs, originating in late 17th and 18th-century England. It was primarily designed to serve as a dressing table, small writing desk, or side table in domestic interiors.

Traditional lowboys were predominantly constructed from solid woods such as oak, walnut, and mahogany. Construction features typically include hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, oak drawer linings, hand-planed surfaces, and brass drop handles or backplates.

Authentic period lowboys display signs of hand-tooling, irregular drawer dovetails, authentic wear on the drawer runners, and natural shrinkage across wood panels over time. Brass hardware should show age-appropriate oxidisation and cast marks consistent with 18th-century manufacturing.

An antique lowboy functions effectively as a hall table in an entryway, a side table in a living area, or a compact dressing table in a bedroom. Combining the warm wood tones with contemporary artwork or minimalist table lamps creates a balanced, layered aesthetic.

Preserve the original finish by dusting regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year, working along the wood grain, and avoid placement near direct heat sources or in direct sunlight to prevent timber movement and fading.
