Oil on panel Portrait of a nobleman from around 1620 which is Later (18th Century) inscribed with the supposed identity of the subject "Count Jan Ernst Van Nassau" It is a striking painting and in very good order for its age and housed in a gilt wooden frame. A wonderful and historic early work with no damage or paint loss.

We are told that the subject doesn't look like the known portraits of Count Jan Ernst- Siegen that the later inscription claims him to be. However, it could possibly be Johann Ludwig, Prince of Nassau-Hadamar (1590-1653) whose image is known from a portrait of him in the Lobkowicz collection in the Czech Republic, as his granddaughter Klaudia Franziska of Nassau-Hadamar married the 3rd Prince Lobkowicz.

The Lobkowicz family returned to Prague from USA in 1989 where they were granted restitution on their palace which dates back to the 14th century. They now welcome visitors there. We lived in Prague for 5 years and speaking from personal experience a visit to the Lobcowicz palace is worthwhile and fascinating .
