Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian dressing chest is a functional piece of 19th-century bedroom furniture that integrates a standard chest of drawers with a top-mounted, pivoting mirror. Designed for both garment storage and personal grooming, these pieces were popular in British households during the late Victorian era.

These chests were predominantly crafted from dense hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or stained pine. Construction featured hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, brass or copper drop handles, and silvered glass mirrors mounted on upright timber supports.

Authentic pieces display period joinery techniques, including hand-cut dovetails and solid wood drawer linings. Look for natural age lines in the timber, original brass hardware with historical tarnish or oxidisation, and castors on the base legs.

Place the piece in a bedroom or dressing area alongside neutral wall tones to allow the dark timber to stand out. Complement the piece with modern ceramic accessories or simple linen textiles to create a balanced contrast between historical and modern elements.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish occasionally to preserve the timber finish. Keep the furniture away from direct heat sources or damp environments to prevent wood movement and veneer lifting.
