ANTIQUE #SA993641

Tribal Club, Kanak People New Caledonia,C1890

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Curious Antiques

Interesting late 19th century tribal club,c1890. The phallic/mushroom shape of the head and the stepped grip is very typical of clubs used by the Kanak, who the indigenous Melanesian people of New Caledonia, a small group of islands in the southwest pacific. The wood has great colour and just the right amount of wear to indicate use over many years. There is a small hole in the grip end ,presumably for a strap to be inserted. Overall condition is good with no obvious issues. Please refer to the detailed photographs and feel free to contact me if you would like to view the item or have any questions.
