Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Early Victorian furniture, produced between 1837 and the mid-19th century, bridges late Regency classical proportions with substantial timber construction. Common features include rich mahogany, turned legs, curved carved spandrels, and integrated drawer arrangements.

Pieces from this era were primarily constructed using solid mahogany or fine mahogany veneers over oak or pine drawer lining frames. Hardware typically consisted of turned wooden knobs or cast brass escutcheons and wheel castors.

Authentic period examples display hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer linings, natural timber grain variation, and hand-chiseled mortise and tenon joinery. Wear around the keyholes, original drawer locks, and aged brass castors also indicate period construction.

Position the piece against a light-coloured neutral wall to contrast the deep mahogany tones, pairing it with a contemporary desk chair or modern artwork. It functions effectively as a home office desk, a hallway console table, or a bedroom dressing table.

Keep the timber away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent drying or fading. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish along the grain twice a year, wiping away excess residue with a clean microfiber cloth.
