A Koro is a traditional Japanese incense burner, historically produced in metal, stone, or ceramic. Imari versions are crafted from porcelain in Arita, Japan, characterized by underglaze cobalt blue and overglaze iron-red enamelling with gilded details.

19th-century Imari censers were created using kaolin clay fired at high temperatures to form hard-paste porcelain. The decoration combines underglaze cobalt blue paint with hand-applied overglaze enamels and gold leaf gilding.

Authentic pieces feature asymmetrical hand-painted decoration, visible spur marks on the base from kiln firing, slightly greyish white porcelain, and natural wear to the gilded accents and foot rim.
