Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Tunbridge ware is a form of decorative inlaid woodwork developed in the Kent town of Tunbridge Wells during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The style gained popularity with visitors to the spa town, evolving into intricate mosaic bands and pictorial designs crafted from natural timber tesserae.

Craftsmen utilised native British hardwoods such as holly, yew, sycamore, cherry, and plum, alongside imported woods like mahogany or walnut. The natural colour variations of the untreated timbers were arranged to create geometric patterns without relying on artificial dyes.

Authentic items display micro-mosaic marquetry constructed from end-grain wood veneers rather than painted motifs or modern printed paper overlays. Genuine pieces also feature period-appropriate joinery, original lock escutcheons, and natural surface patination.

Position the box on a sideboard, desk, or open shelf to serve as a functional storage vessel while introducing warm wood tones. Its detailed timber work adds texture and historical context when displayed alongside modern ceramics or framed art.

Dust regularly using a soft, dry microfibre cloth, keeping the item away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber movement. Apply a fine coat of natural beeswax polish annually to protect the wood grain and maintain the lustre.
