Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the 19th century, Victorian dome top jewellery boxes are wooden storage containers characterised by a curved lid, polished veneer, and fitted metal hardware. They were produced to store personal accessories, trinkets, or sewing implements during the mid-to-late Victorian era.

These boxes typically feature dense hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, or rosewood, often finished with figured veneers. Metal components, including flush brass carrying handles, escutcheon plates, and key lock mechanisms, provided both security and structural decoration.

Authentic 19th-century examples display signs of period craftsmanship, such as hand-cut dovetail joints, slotted brass screws, and natural oxidisation on metal fittings. They frequently feature functional lock mechanisms with original steel keys and natural wood grain variations.

Position the box on a sideboard top, dressing table, or bedside cabinet to add texture and historical contrast to modern room schemes. It serves as both a functional container for small daily items and a structured decorative accent.

Dust the wood regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish along the direction of the grain. Keep the item away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent the timber veneer from drying out or cracking.
