Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The Georgian style spans from 1714 to 1830 across the reigns of King George I through George IV. It is characterised by classical proportions, symmetrical forms, and the widespread adoption of dense Cuban and West Indian mahogany.

Georgian chests were predominantly crafted using solid or veneered mahogany for the exterior, with secondary timbers such as deal, pine, or oak used for drawer linings and back panels. Hardware was typically cast brass, including swan-neck handles and decorative keyhole escutcheon plates.

Authentic Georgian pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints that are slightly irregular, solid drawer bases running front-to-back or side-to-side, and natural timber shrinkage over time. Original brasses will show hand-chased details, uneven thread pitches on iron screws, and historical oxidisation.

A dark mahogany Georgian chest adds warmth and historical grounding when placed against neutral plaster or dark moody wall colours. Modern accessories, contemporary artwork framed above, or sleek table lamps create an intentional contrast between period craftsmanship and modern design.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying a quality beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the piece away from direct sunlight and modern central heating radiators to prevent veneer cracking and wood warp.
