In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Georgian chests of drawers were produced during the reigns of King George I through King George IV (17141830). They are recognised for their symmetrical proportions, use of dense timber such as mahogany or walnut, cockbeaded drawer edges, and traditional bracket feet.

Primary woods included imported West Indian mahogany, walnut, and oak, often highlighted with flame veneer fronts. Secondary woods used for drawer linings and internal framing typically comprised pine, oak, or deal, assembled using hand-cut dovetail joints.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut dovetails that are unequal in size, hand-sawn wood marks on the back panels, and signs of natural wood shrinkage over time. Hardware such as brass swan-neck handles should show age-appropriate oxidisation and cast marks.

A dark mahogany Georgian chest provides visual weight and historic texture when placed against neutral or contemporary wallpaper backdrop. Combining the piece with modern abstract art or minimalist ceramic lighting creates an effective juxtaposition between old and new.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and applying a thin coat of natural beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources, radiators, and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight to prevent timber movement and fading.
