Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Gustavian style furniture originated in Sweden during the reign of King Gustav III in the late eighteenth century, combining French Neoclassical restraint with Scandinavian practicality. Key features include pale painted finishes, straight tapered or square legs, simple geometric framing, and carved details such as fluting or cresting.

Swedish benches from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries were predominantly crafted from locally sourced softwoods, such as pine or fir. These woods were typically finished with hand-mixed chalk or milk paints in muted shades of white, grey, or soft blue to brighten interior spaces during long northern winters.

Authentic nineteenth-century pieces display signs of traditional joinery, including hand-cut mortise and tenon joints, pegged construction, and subtle hand-planing marks on hidden surfaces. Layered paint history, gentle wear on high-touch areas, and natural wood shrinkage near joints also indicate genuine period construction.

A Gustavian bench serves as a functional focal point in an entryway, hallway, or at the foot of a bed. Its clean lines and muted colour palette allow it to sit alongside modern minimalist decor or complement classic country house schemes when dressed with neutral linen cushions.

Maintain painted pine furniture by dusting regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and keeping it away from direct heat sources to prevent timber movement. Avoid abrasive liquid cleaners, and apply a thin layer of clear beeswax occasionally to protect the painted patina.
