Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A breakfront wardrobe features a central section that juts forward beyond the flanking side wings. This architectural design originated in 18th-century furniture making to create visual depth and maximize internal storage capacity.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid mahogany framing combined with rich flame mahogany veneers laid over secondary timbers such as pine or oak. Hand-cut dovetail joints, brass hardware, and moulded cornices were standard features.

Look for signs of period construction, including hand-sawn wood marks on the back panels, hand-cut dovetail jointing in internal drawers, and original wear around keyholes and hinges. Flame mahogany veneer patterns will also show natural variation across panels.

Position the wardrobe as a focal anchor piece against a neutral wall, allowing its deep wood tones to ground the space. Balance its architectural scale with minimalist soft furnishings and warm, ambient lighting.

Dust regularly using a soft, lint-free cloth along the wood grain. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish twice a year to preserve the timber, avoiding synthetic spray polishes and direct heat sources.
