Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian mahogany wardrobes from around 1880 are characterised by their substantial solid wood frames, flame mahogany veneer panels, moulded cornices, and frequently central mirrored doors. They typically combine hanging sections with lower drawer storage, reflecting the manufacturing quality and functional design of the late-nineteenth century.

These pieces were built using solid mahogany or pine internal carcases faced with high-grade flame mahogany veneers. Mirrors from this period were usually silvered plate glass, and secondary timbers like pine or deal were used for drawer linings and rear paneling.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, original brass or turned wood handles, original iron lock plates, and natural aging on the timber carcase. The back panels are often pine boards secured with traditional screws or nails.

A dark mahogany wardrobe creates a grounding focal point when set against light neutral walls, such as off-white or soft grey tones. Pairing the piece with contemporary lighting or modern textiles balances the heavy visual weight of the dark wood.

Dust the timber regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year following the grain. Avoid placing the wardrobe near direct heat sources or in direct sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage and veneer cracking.
