Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A gueridon is a small, circular accent table originating in France, designed to hold lamps, candles, or small items. The Directoire style emerged between 1795 and 1799, bridging the Louis XVI and Empire periods, characterised by neoclassical symmetry, restrained carving, and geometric elegance.

Craftsmen typically utilised dense hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, and fruitwood. Tops frequently incorporated inset marble or painted glass surfaces, while lower undertiers sometimes featured woven cane or thin wood paneling supported by turned legs.

Authentic Directoire pieces display period joinery such as hand-cut tenons, slight variations in hand-carved details, and historical wear along lower stretchers. Look for neoclassical motifs like fluted column legs, palmettes, or ribbon carving alongside original marble insets.

A gueridon functions as an occasional table beside an armchair, an accent piece in a hallway, or a stand for indoor greenery. Its tall, narrow profile allows it to fit into compact spaces while introducing architectural texture.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply beeswax periodically to preserve the timber finish. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources to prevent the marble from thermal shock and to keep the cane undertier from drying out.
