Description

An outstanding 17th century oak and iron bound baroque chest of continental origin (probably German) of very large proportions, complete with its original key. Circa. 1700.

The chest is very substantial and boasts a truly exceptional colour throughout to both the oak and iron work. The original key is striking in itself and the lock still functions perfectly - auto locking when closed. The interior remains in a very good condition with a later hinged candle box to the left side. The chest sits upon later bracket feet; a historic and sympathetic addition which replicates the dovetailing of the chest to each corner.

A really lovely example.
