A stunning 19th century mother of pearl and abalone inlaid ebonised papier-mache jewellery cabinet, c.1850.
The cabinet exterior boasts richly inlaid floral motifs throughout with extensive gilt detailing, with the lid depicting a painted and inlaid lake scene. The lid lifts to reveal a partially silk lined arrangement of compartments. To the front of the cabinet are a pair of hinged doors, each with an oval cartouche with floral inlay. The doors open to reveal an arrangement of inlaid graduated drawers, the top drawers with velvet lined compartments, each with a carved mother of pearl handle. The side panels of the cabinet boast inlaid painted flowers.
The cabinet has some light wear commensurate with age, namely some light marking to the interior and a repair to the left lid hinge, but generally the cabinet remains in a very good condition throughout.
