The collection of 7th Viscount Gort, Standish Robert Vereker (1888-1975) at Hamsterley Hall, Co. Durham.
Photographed by Country Life in the drawing room of Hamsterley Hall in 1939 and 1940.
The design is possibly inspired by a drawing attributed to the workshop of Raphael in the National Museum, Stockholm; a Nineteenth Century albumen print of the drawing is in the Royal Collection, acquired by Prince Albert for the Raphael Collection.
George's Hall, Windsor. This imagery can also be found on the badge of the Order of the Garter, on the reverse of British coins from the early Nineteenth Century onwards and reflects the interest in the Chivalric order and Arthurian legends during the Victorian era.
