Pair of Georgian Brass Candlesticks

Description

A fine pair of George III period brass candlesticks with turned spun bases. They have side candle ejectors which are in good working order. These candlesticks are in excellent strong original condition. Sizes: 4”(10cms) diameter, 7 ½ “ (19 cms) high. Date circa 1790.

Georgian brass ejector candlesticks feature an internal mechanism with a side slide button that allows the user to raise the remaining candle stub out of the socket. Popular during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, these functional pieces were widely produced across Britain.

These candlesticks were typically cast in separate metal sectionssuch as the base and tubular stemand subsequently joined using solder or threaded internal rods. High-zinc brass alloys gave them a warm golden tone, while the ejector mechanism was fitted into a vertical slot cut along the stem.
