Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A pearlware comport is a raised ceramic serving dish or bowl produced primarily in Britain during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Developed by Josiah Wedgwood and other Staffordshire potters, pearlware features a white earthenware body covered with a cobalt-tinted lead glaze, creating a cool blue-toned finish.

Georgian reticulated comports were formed from earthenware clay and hand-cut while still in a leather-hard state before firing. The intricate openwork lattice pattern was created using shaped punches, after which underglaze cobalt transfer decorations were applied prior to glazing.

Authentic pearlware from this era typically shows pooling of blue-tinted glaze in crevices, foot rings, and reticulated openings. The body is lightweight earthenware, and the glaze often exhibits fine age-related crazing alongside underglaze transfer designs in dark cobalt tones.

An antique comport makes an effective centrepiece on a dining table, sideboard, or kitchen island. Its sculptural reticulated silhouette and blue-and-white patterning pair well with contemporary neutral palettes or traditional timber surfaces.

Clean reticulated ceramics using a soft brush and warm water with mild detergent, taking care not to submerge compromised or cracked glaze areas. Avoid automatic dishwashers, harsh chemical solvents, and sudden temperature shifts that could stress delicate openwork structure.
