Technical Description
A superb pair of 19th century glass claret jugs dating to c1880.
They have blue facet cut stoppers with matching rope looped applied handles. Amber bodies with a poring section to the front and applied neck rings. Star cut bases.
These jugs were made at the Holyrood glass works in Edinburgh Scotland in the late 19th century and can been seen in the book ''The Magic and Misery of Glassmaking: Researching the History of the Scottish Glass Industry
By Jill Turnbull'' which was published by Society of Antiquaries of Scotland. See link below...
The Magic and Misery of Glassmaking By Jill Turnbull
The jugs can be further identified as Holyrood examples by the fact that they have 4 cuts at the top of the stoppers rather than the normal six or flat tops seen elsewhere.
