Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A chamberstick is a short, portable candle holder featuring a broad saucer-like tray, a loop or scroll handle, and usually a matching conical candle snuffer. Popularised throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, these items were designed to carry burning candles safely between rooms at night.

Georgian chambersticks were predominantly crafted from solid sterling silver, fused Sheffield plate, or cast brass. Sterling silver examples were wrought and cast by hand, featuring hallmarks stamped directly into the pan and matching components.

Authentic 18th-century silver chambersticks carry a full set of British hallmarks, including the makers mark, town mark, lion passant for silver purity, date letter, and sovereign duty mark. Original matching pieces, such as the removable conical snuffer, often feature small corresponding marks.

An antique silver chamberstick functions as a historic accent piece when displayed on a bedside table, hallway console, or mantelpiece. Position it alongside natural timber surfaces or contemporary ceramics to provide a subtle metallic contrast.

Clean silver chambersticks using a soft cloth and specialized non-abrasive silver polish to remove oxidisation without eroding detail. Avoid abrasive sponges, harsh chemical cleaners, or automatic dishwashers that could permanently scratch soft sterling silver.
