Dog Oil Painting Of A Pointer By Thomas Paterson

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Prometheus Antiques

A charming oil on artist board depicting a Pointer. The work shows the dog in head and shoulders profile and is brilliantly observed with a bold use of the brush. The piece has been professionally cleaned and is in excellent condition. The painting is signed to the lower right T Paterson. Thomas ‘Tom’ Paterson was a Scottish artist who specialized in country scenes with children normally in watercolours. He exhibited at the Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts and At the Royal Scottish Academy and was active 1890-1940. This subject and medium are unusual for this artist and on the reverse, it does state the owners name and that it was created for advertising purposes explaining that the work was a commissioned piece. The painting retains the original simple oak frame and the whole is ready to hang. C.1920.
