Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Fold-over card tables became prominent during the 18th and 19th centuries across Western Europe, designed specifically to accommodate popular parlour card games. When closed, these tables functioned as space-saving wall or console tables, opening via a swivel or extension mechanism to reveal a larger playing surface.

High-quality 19th-century card tables were typically crafted from solid hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, or rosewood, often finished with decorative burr or feather veneers. The inner playing surface was usually lined with wool baize or velvet, and accents included brass beaded trims, collar mounts, and castors.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut joinery, original brass hinges, and natural patination along the timber frame and legs. Stamped maker marks from prominent cabinetmakers, such as Gillows, are often found on the upper edge of the drawer or underside of the framework.

In a contemporary setting, a fold-over card table works exceptionally well positioned flush against a wall in a hallway or living room as a console table. It can be styled with a table lamp, decorative ceramics, or framed artwork, remaining functional for occasional games when opened.

To preserve burr walnut veneers, keep the item away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent drying, cracking, or bleaching. Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year to maintain the wood lustre.
