George III Oak Centre Second Sweep Longcase Clock

Description

A superior quality George III oak cased 8 day longcase clock with unusual painted scene to the brass and silvered dial and centre seconds hand c.1765. The quality oak case with slim trunk and caddy hood, decorative lacquered panel bellow. Brass mounted pillars to the sides of the glazed hood door, matching quarter columns to the trunk and canted corners of the base. Sat on a moulded plinth with ogee bracket feet. The fine quality 8 day movement with dead beat escapement and bell striking on the hour, engraved brass and silvered dial with unusual painted country scene to the centre. Date aperture and rare centre sweep seconds hand. Made by John Clayton of Marple Cheshire, one of well known and highly regarded family of clock makers (died 1769). Presented in superb condition, the case with a wonderful rich colour and deep shine, the movement fully overhauled and working. 12 months guarantee. Measures 84" tall x 22.5" wide at the hood x 13" wide trunk x 10" maximum depth.
