An uncommon pattern for this beautifully moulded Low Chelsea Ewer, attractively painted in Chinese Export style with floral sprigs and an elaborate lattice border. Other manufacturers also produced this pattern, but the shape is well known.

In excellent antique condition. No apparent defects.

A Low Chelsea Ewer is a distinct shape of small porcelain cream or milk jug originally created at the Chelsea Porcelain Factory in the mid-18th century. The form features a low profile, leaf-moulded lower body, flared spout, and loop handle, which was subsequently produced by factories such as Caughley, Worcester, and Derby.

18th-century Caughley ewers were constructed from soft-paste porcelain containing soaprock (steatite), which gave the body strength and a characteristic translucency. Pieces were typically decorated with hand-painted enamel floral motifs or blue-and-white transfer printing prior to glazing.
