A sparrow beak jug is a small ceramic pitcher designed with a pinched, pointed spout resembling the beak of a bird. Originating in 18th-century Britain, these jugs were manufactured primarily during the Georgian period for serving milk or cream as part of tea services.

Jugs from this era were made using soft-paste porcelain infused with soaprock (steatite) from Cornwall, which prevented cracking when exposed to hot liquids. Decorations were applied by hand using overglaze enamel paints before a final firing.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit a greenish or bluish tint when held up to a direct light source due to the steatitic soft-paste body. Glaze often pools around the foot rim, and the hand-painted floral motifs demonstrate the distinctive brushwork techniques of the First Period (Dr Wall) era.
