Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A bible box is a small portable wooden chest produced primarily during the 16th and 17th centuries to store valuable items, including family Bibles, legal documents, and writing instruments. These boxes were typically placed on tables or desks and featured hand-carved front panels.

These boxes were constructed from solid timber, most commonly English oak, using early joinery techniques such as mortise and tenon or pegged joints. Lids were fitted with iron hinges, and front panels were accented with wrought iron lock plates.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-planed oak surfaces with subtle irregularities, natural wood shrinkage over time, and period-appropriate iron hardware. Decorative motifs usually consist of carved geometric, lunette, or demi-lune patterns characteristic of the Jacobean era.

Place the box on a sideboard, console table, or deep shelving unit to add functional storage and historical texture. Pair dark oak timber with modern stone surfaces, neutral linen fabrics, or contemporary artwork for a balanced contrast.

Dust the wood regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the timber patination. Keep the item away from direct heat sources and extreme moisture to avoid warping or cracking.
