Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Small mahogany chests of drawers became prominent during the 18th and 19th centuries in Britain as practical storage solutions for bedrooms and dressing rooms. Mahogany was chosen for its dense grain, stability, and deep colour tone.

Traditional mahogany chests feature solid timber casing with drawer linings often made from pine or oak. Drawers were typically joined using hand-cut dovetail joints and fitted with cast brass or turned wood handles.

Authentic period chests display hand-cut dovetail joints with narrow pins, along with hand-sawn back panels showing uneven timber thickness. Natural oxidisation on the timber underside and age-appropriate wear around handles also indicate authenticity.

A small mahogany chest functions effectively as a tall bedside table or narrow hallway console. Pairing deep mahogany wood tones with light neutral paint schemes creates clean visual contrast in contemporary spaces.

Dust the surfaces regularly using a soft, dry cloth and apply beeswax polish once or twice annually along the timber grain. Keep the cabinet clear of direct radiators and direct sunlight to avoid timber movement and surface fading.
