Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The William IV period spanned from 1830 to 1837, marking a stylistic transition between Grand Regency and early Victorian design. Furniture from this era is characterised by substantial proportions, robust turned legs, rich timber veneers such as mahogany or rosewood, and restrained carved detailing.

Nineteenth-century library desks were predominantly crafted from solid mahogany, oak, or walnut, frequently accented with flame mahogany or rosewood veneers. Desk tops were routinely inset with gilded leather writing surfaces, while hardware typically featured solid brass castors, brass locks, and turned wood or brass handles.

Authentic William IV pieces feature distinct hand-cut dovetail joints inside drawers, cast brass wheel castors, and heavy, stoutly turned legs typical of the 1830s. Partners desks are designed with working drawers or cupboards on both opposing sides, allowing two individuals to work facing each other.

Integrate an antique library desk into a modern interior by pairing it with streamlined contemporary lighting, such as a minimal brass desk lamp, and neutral wall colours. Position the desk centrally in a study or home office to highlight its double-sided construction and rich timber tones.

Maintain the mahogany timber by regularly applying a natural beeswax polish along the wood grain and dusting with a dry microfiber cloth. Preserve the inset leather top by using a dedicated leather conditioner to prevent drying or cracking, keeping the piece away from direct heat sources and sunlight.
