Description

An interesting cigarette box which bears the combined coat of arms of Albert Duke of York his wife Elizabeth Duchess of York who were the parents of out late Queen Elizabeth II. They were given the titles of Duke and Duchess of York at the time of their marriage in 1923. Albert Later became King George VI.

It is likely that this cigarette box, made by Oscar Callow of Mount Street, London, was a gift for friends or staff of the royal couple. It is in good condition, lacquered on the outside with a beechwood lined interior. Inset with the coat of arms in silver on the lid and the rose of York in silver inset on the front and sides. On the under side there are four marks where once was felt, although no doubt put on later. A lovely box with interesting provenance.
