Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A fireplace fender is a low metal curb designed to contain embers and ash within the hearth area, while companion sets provide the necessary implements for managing wood or coal fires. Originating in the late seventeenth century, brass fenders became prominent during the Georgian and Victorian eras as both practical safety features and decorative focal points.

Period hearth accessories were predominantly constructed from wrought iron, cast iron, or solid sheet brass. Brass components were frequently detailed with hand-pierced motifs, rope twist moulding, and cast finials, often supported by internal iron framing for heat resistance.

Authentic antique fenders typically exhibit hand-cut piercing, brazed or riveted joinery, and minor irregularities consistent with traditional metalworking methods. Unexposed undersides or reverse surfaces often reveal unpolished iron supports or darkened metal showing natural age patination.

A brass fender can frame a contemporary stove installation or decorative fireplace opening, defining the hearth space within a room scheme. The warm metallic tones of brass create structural contrast against stone hearths, tiled surrounds, or painted masonry.

To preserve natural patination, dust regularly with a soft microfibre cloth and avoid harsh chemical cleansers. If a brighter finish is preferred, a specialized metal polish can be applied sparingly, taking care to avoid any non-brass structural components.
