Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Chenets, also known as firedogs or andirons, were designed to support burning logs above the hearth floor to improve airflow and combustion efficiency. During the French Baroque era, these functional items evolved into decorative hearth pieces featuring intricate metalwork and architectural motifs.

Baroque andirons were predominantly constructed from wrought or cast iron for the functional rear billets and cast or turned brass, bronze, or copper for the front decorative elements. The joinery often involved threaded iron rods, sand-cast components, and hand-chased surface details.

Authentic pieces often exhibit signs of historical heat exposure, such as oxidisation or warping on the iron billets, along with hand-turned threads and irregular casting marks. Inspection of the reverse side typically reveals unpolished surfaces and hand-hammered iron joints.

These pieces function as structural focal points within an open fireplace hearth or an inactive decorative fireplace recess. They can also be paired with modern stone or minimal brick surrounds to create a juxtaposition of historic detail and clean architectural lines.

Light dusting and non-abrasive cleaning with a soft microfibre cloth are recommended to preserve the natural patina. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners that strip historic surface oxidisation, and ensure iron components remain dry to prevent corrosion.
