Sturmans Antiques has dated this piece to the Georgian era.
Arched brass and silvered engraved dial, date aperture to the centre and Roman numerals to the chapter ring. Cast rocco gilt spandrels to the corners and strike-silent dial set to the arch. 8 day double fusse movement with engraved back plate, original verge escapement and hour striking on a bell with repeater. The dial bearing the makers name W Nicholason, London, recorded making between 1753 and 1815. Superb mellow colour and original patina to the case, the movement fully overhauled and working. Measures 20.5" high x 12.5" wide x 8.5" deep at the base.
