Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Late Victorian glazed cabinets typically feature a two-part construction comprising an upper section with glass panelled doors and a deeper lower cupboard or drawer base. Crafted predominantly from rich woods like mahogany, walnut, or oak, these pieces emphasised practical storage alongside display capabilities.

Cabinetmakers during the late nineteenth century favoured solid mahogany, walnut, and oak, frequently utilizing hand-cut dovetail drawer joints and solid brass hardware. Display sections featured hand-blown sheet glass held within moulded timber framing.

Authentic pieces exhibit signs of traditional woodworking, such as hand-cut joinery, natural shrinkage marks on back panels, original brass escutcheons, and subtle irregularities in older glass panes.

Position the piece as a focal point in a dining room, kitchen alcove, or home bar area, pairing dark timber with neutral wall colours or modern accent seating to create a balanced contrast between contemporary and historic elements.

Dust wood surfaces regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply a quality bees wax polish sparingly twice a year along the grain. Glass panels should be cleaned with a dedicated glass cleaner applied directly to a microfibre cloth to protect surrounding wood finishes.
